SUCCESS STORY:

Our Teachers

KIPP Austin Public Schools teachers are tenacious, resilient and above all, focused on students. Our teachers are committed to ensuring that every student who walks into their classroom is provided with a college preparatory education and given every opportunity to achieve at a high level.

Being a teacher at KIPP Austin Public Schools requires a significant commitment of time and effort.  We greatly value excellence at all levels in the community we’ve created, and recognize and value our teachers as the foundation of our schools. Our teachers share a sense of camaraderie and a clear mission to achieve together, which make their working experiences all the more enjoyable.  We know that success doesn’t just “happen.”  It takes every one of us working together toward the same goal each and every day.  We deliberately infuse our culture into all that we do—from our instructional practices to directly interacting with each student to how we develop curriculum.

In order to ensure that students are receiving the best possible instruction, KIPP Austin Public Schools recruits and selects excellent teachers who have had significant success working with low-income, minority, and other traditionally underserved populations. We structure the school schedule to ensure regular opportunities for common planning, mentoring and coaching, and for robust professional development and collaboration between principals and teachers.

To ensure that we attract and retain the most talented and hardest-working teaching staff, our competitive salary and benefits package starts at 10 percent above the pay scale for the Austin Independent School District.  In addition, teachers and staff earn a longevity bonus for each year that they choose to return to KIPP Austin Public Schools.  Teachers and staff are also rewarded at the end of each year with a performance bonus for meeting their annual goals.  KIPP Austin Public Schools provides the support necessary for our teachers to develop into master teachers; KIPP Austin teachers are constant learners, striving to improve their instructional practices on a student-by-student, as well as day-to-day basis. KIPP Austin teachers work in shared learning communities, leveraging each other’s talents, as well as the skills and best practices of KIPP teachers across the nation.
