KIPP Austin Public Schools is Expanding to Serve More Students
It’s an exciting time at KIPP Austin, as we begin our eighth school year. We’re also moving full steam ahead with our expansion plans. KIPP Austin is entering a transformative era, with plans to grow into a full K-12 school district with 10 schools. When fully enrolled, we will serve over 5,000 low income and minority students, and more than double the number of college-ready low income and minority students in Austin.
One of our greatest challenges in achieving this vision is the “gap” between the public funding we receive from the state and federal government and our needs per pupil. As a public school, KIPP Austin receives federal and state support – but as a charter school, we do not receive funding for facilities, which is especially challenging in Austin’s competitive real estate market. In addition, KIPP must also fund expenditures not incurred in traditional public schools, but which are integral to our success: extra time spent by faculty in the classroom each day during the year, on Saturdays, and in the summer, as well as our culturally enriching field lessons. The resulting difference between per pupil state and federal support and our need is our “gap”, which requires us to raise funds from the community.
We hope you’ll consider helping us close that gap by joining our family of funders. Your support would play a vital role in helping to empower underserved students with the education they need for a brighter future. Not only would your gift ensure our current students receive an outstanding college prep education, but would also ensure that KIPP Austin can continue to increase its impact by serving more students in the future.
