I love the phrase, “Knowledge is Power.” But I’ve also heard the kids at KIPP repeating another one of my favorites, that being, “There are no shortcuts.”  What a great lesson for our future leaders.

At the KLE Foundation, our focus on education targets underprivileged students who have the will and commitment to work hard in making a better future for themselves.  KIPP Austin Public Schools is an essential organization for the East Austin community that allows motivated students to break the cycle of generational poverty through an exemplary education that opens the college door.

Our mission is to eradicate childhood obesity in Austin over the next three years.  We’re thrilled to support KIPP Austin Public Schools students’ collective commitment to create healthy lifestyles with daily exercise.  They are ending the myth that kids don’t want to move and provide that kids want to get in shape if given the equipment, coaching, and events.

I visited with KIPP Austin Public Schools students on the steps of our nation’s Capitol.  Their enthusiasm and engagement is a testament to the strength of KIPP’s mission.  Their pioneering spirit promises great things as our community’s future leaders.  As the husband of an educator and the father of an educator, I appreciate the many obstacles facing our schools.  From qualified and dedicated educators to involved parents, KIPP continues to challenge enrolled families and our community to strive for success.
